This chapter describes all standard, country-spe‐
cific and optional features offered with the series.
It also describes features that are not necessarily
available in your vehicle, e. g., due to the selected
options or country versions. This also applies to
safety-related functions and systems. When us‐
ing these functions and systems, the applicable
laws and regulations must be observed.

Overview
Switches in the vehicle
General information
Position of switch:
,
,
If the driver's door is opened when the ignition is
switched off, the exterior lighting is automatically
switched off.
Parking lights
Position of switch:
The vehicle is illuminated on all sides.
Do not use the parking lights for extended peri‐
ods; otherwise, they might drain the battery and
it would then be impossible to start the engine.
The light switch element is located next to the
steering wheel.

Function
Canada: when parking, switch on the one-sided
roadside parking light, refer to page 140.

Welcome lights
Concept
General information
The low beams are switched on and off automat‐
ically depending on the ambient brightness, for
instance in tunnels, in twilight or if there is pre‐
cipitation.
Depending on the vehicle equipment and the
ambient brightness, individual light functions may
be switched on briefly when the vehicle is un‐
locked.
General information
Activating/deactivating
A blue sky with the sun low on the horizon can
cause the lights to be switched on.
Position of switch:
,
Via iDrive:
When emerging from a tunnel during the day, the
low beams are not switched off immediately but
instead only after approx. 2 minutes.

2. "Vehicle settings"
3. "Lighting"

CONTROLS
Activating
Position of switch:
Adaptive light functions
The indicator light in the instrument cluster is il‐
luminated when the low beams are switched on.
Concept
Adaptive light functions enable dynamic illumina‐
tion of the roadway.
System limits
The automatic headlight control cannot serve as
a substitute for your personal judgment of light‐
ing conditions.
General information
The adaptive light functions may consist of one
system or multiple systems, depending on the
equipment version:
For example, the sensors are unable to detect
fog or hazy weather. To avoid safety risks under
these conditions, you should always switch on
the lights manually.
Adaptive Light Control, refer to page 141.
Cornering light, refer to page 141.
Activating
Position of switch:
Daytime running lights
The adaptive light functions are active when the
engine is running.
General information
Position of switch:
,
,
Adaptive Light Control
Depending on the steering angle and other pa‐
rameters, the light from the headlight follows the
course of the road.
The daytime running lights light up when the ig‐
nition is switched on. After the ignition is
switched off, the parking lights light up in posi‐
tion
.
To avoid blinding oncoming traffic, the Adaptive
Light Control does not swivel to the opposite
lane when the vehicle is at a standstill.
Activating/deactivating
In some countries, daytime running lights are
mandatory, so it may not be possible to deacti‐
vate the daytime running lights.
Cornering light
In tight curves, for instance on mountainous
roads or when turning, an additional, cornering
light is switched on that lights up the inside of
the curve better when the vehicle is moving be‐
low a certain speed.
Via iDrive:
1. "My Vehicle"
2. "Vehicle settings"
3. "Lighting"
The cornering light is automatically switched on
depending on the steering angle or the use of
turn signals.
4. "Exterior lighting"
5. Select the desired setting.
Settings are stored for the profile currently used.
When driving in reverse, the cornering lights may
be automatically switched on regardless of the
steering angle.

CONTROLS
The indicator light in the instrument clus‐
ter is illuminated when the low beams are
switched on.
Adaptive headlight range
control
The headlights are automatically switched be‐
tween low beams and high beams.
The adaptive headlight range control compen‐
sates for acceleration and braking operations in
order not to blind the oncoming traffic and to
achieve optimum illumination of the roadway.
The blue indicator light in the instrument
cluster lights up when the system
switches on the high beams.
High-beam Assistant
The high-beam Assistant is deactivated when
manually switching the high beams on and off,
refer to page 111.
Concept
To reactivate the high-beam Assistant, press the
button on the turn signal lever.
The high-beam Assistant detects other traffic
participants early on and automatically switches
the high beams on or off depending on the traffic
situation.
System limits
The high-beam Assistant cannot serve as a sub‐
stitute for the driver's personal judgment of when
to use the high beams. In situation that require
this, therefore switch off manually.
General information
The high-beam Assistant ensures that the high
beams are switched on, whenever the traffic sit‐
uation allows. In the low speed range, the high
beams are not switched on by the system.
The system is not fully functional in the following
situations, and driver intervention may be neces‐
sary:
The system responds to light from oncoming
traffic and traffic driving ahead of you, and to am‐
bient lighting, for instance in towns and cities.
In very unfavorable weather conditions, such
as fog or heavy precipitation.
When detecting poorly-lit road users such as
pedestrians, cyclists, horseback riders and
wagons; when driving close to train or ship
traffic; and at animal crossings.
The high beams can be switched on and off
manually at any time.
Activating/deactivating
In tight curves, on hilltops or in depressions,
in cross traffic or half-obscured oncoming
traffic on highways.
In poorly-lit towns and cities and in the pres‐
ence of highly reflective signs.
When the windshield in front of the interior
mirror is fogged over, dirty or covered with
stickers, etc.
Position of switch, depending on the vehicle
equipment:
,
Press and hold button on signal lever.

Fog lights
Interior lights
Front fog lights
General information
Depending on the equipment, the interior lights,
footwell lights, entry lights, and courtesy lights
are controlled automatically.
Concept
The front fog lights work alongside the low
beams to illuminate a wider area of the roadway.
Thumbwheel for the instrument lighting controls
brightness of some of these features.
Functional requirement
The low beams must be switched on before
switching on the front fog lights.
Overview
Switching on/off
Press button.
The green indicator light lights up if the
front fog lights are switched on.
If the automatic headlight control, refer to
page 140, is activated, the low beams will come
on automatically when you switch on the front
fog lights.

To switch off permanently: press the button and
hold for approx. 3 seconds.
Functional requirement
The parking lights or low beams must be
switched on to adjust the brightness.
