Coolant level
General information
This chapter describes all standard, country-spe‐
cific and optional features offered with the series.
It also describes features that are not necessarily
available in your vehicle, e. g., due to the selected
options or country versions. This also applies to
safety-related functions and systems. When us‐
ing these functions and systems, the applicable
laws and regulations must be observed.
The coolant level is indicted using minimum and
maximum markings. Depending on the coolant
reservoir, the minimum and maximum markings
are located at different locations.
Concept
Depending on the engine installation, the coolant
reservoir is located on the right side or the left
side of the engine compartment.
General information
Checking the coolant level on the
side markings
Not all commercially available additives are suita‐
ble for the vehicle. Information about suitable ad‐
ditives is available from a dealer’s service center
or another qualified service center or repair shop.
1. Let the engine cool.
2. The coolant level is correct if it lies between
the minimum and maximum marks.
The marks are on the side of the coolant res‐
ervoir.

WARNING
With the engine hot and the cooling system
open, coolant can escape and lead to scalding.
There is a risk of injury. Only open the cooling
system with the engine cooled down.

Additives are harmful and incorrect additives
can damage the engine. There is a risk of injury
and risk of damage to property. Do not allow
additives to come into contact with skin, eyes
or articles of clothing. Use suitable additives
only.

Adding
1. Let the engine cool.
There are yellow Min and Max marks in the cool‐
ant reservoir.
2. Turn the lid of the coolant reservoir slightly
counterclockwise to allow any excess pres‐
sure to dissipate, then open it.

3. If the coolant is low, slowly add coolant up to
the specified level; do not overfill.
4. Turn the lid until there is an audible click. The
arrows on the coolant reservoir and the lid
must point towards one another.

5. Have the cause of the coolant loss eliminated
as soon as possible.

protection regulations when disposing of
