DRIVING TIPS
Saving fuel
Vehicle features and options ECO PRO
This chapter describes model-specific equip-
ment, systems, and functions that are currently
available, or may become available in the fu-
ture, even if they are not present in the vehicle.
Principle
ECO PRO supports a driving style that saves
on consumption. For this purpose, the engine
control and comfort features, for instance the
climate control output, are adjusted.
Additional information:
Vehicle equipment, refer to page 8.
When certain prerequisites are met the engine
is automatically decoupled from the transmis-
sion in the D selector lever position. The ve-
hicle continues traveling in Neutral to reduce
consumption. The D selector lever position re-
mains engaged.
Reducing fuel consumption
Principle
In addition, context-sensitive information, ECO
PRO tips, are displayed to assist with an effi-
cient driving style.
The vehicle contains advanced technologies
for the reduction of consumption and emission
values.
The achieved extended range is displayed in
the instrument cluster as bonus range.
There are some actions you can take to
change your fuel consumption and environ-
mental impact:
General information
The system includes the follow-
ing EfficientDynamics functions and
EfficientDynamics displays:

Switch off the engine if the vehicle is to re-
main stationary for a longer period.
Practice anticipatory driving and let the ve-
hicle coast more often.
Deactivate functions that are not required,
e.g., rear window heating.
Have the vehicle serviced regularly.

DRIVING TIPS
This means that it is possible to deviate
slightly from the set temperature or to heat
or cool down the car's interior more slowly to
economize on consumption.
Overview

The output of exterior mirror heating and rear
window defroster is reduced.
Depending on the equipment version, the dy-
namic ECO lighting function is activated in ad-
dition.

The activation of ECO PRO will reduce the out-
put of the seat heating.
When driving efficiently, the power gauge is
colored blue.
The display will change to gray if the driving
style is inefficient.

Display in case of inefficient driving
style
Display on the control display
The display of the efficiency analysis shows
the efficiency of the driving style.
When driving above the efficient range,
an arrow will be displayed.
For instance, this is displayed for the
following situations:
The more efficient the driving style, the larger
the area that is displayed in color and the
faster the bonus range increases.
▷
▷
Excessive acceleration.
Excessive speed.
In contrast, a reduced area will be displayed
with an inefficient driving style.
In addition, a notice to coast in advance is dis-
played.
Adaptive recuperation
Driving style analysis
Principle
Principle
Adaptive recuperation supports an anticipatory
and comfort-oriented driving style.
The function helps develop an especially effi-
cient driving style and to conserve fuel.
The system decides based on the situation if
energy is recovered through recuperation or if
the vehicle is to coast.
For this purpose, the driving style is analyzed.
The assessment is done in various categories
and is displayed on the control display.
In vehicles with mild hybrid technology, the
power of recuperation is adaptive, which
causes the vehicle to decelerate to varying de-
grees when coasting.
This display will help you adjust your driving
style and save some fuel.
General information
The range of the vehicle can be extended by
adjusting your driving style.
General information
Various sensors analyze the current driving sit-
uation, e.g., the distance to the vehicle in front.
The current trip is analyzed.
Adaptive recuperation is available depending
on the equipment and national-market version.
This gain in range is displayed as a bonus
range in the instrument cluster and on the con-
trol display.
Functional requirements
The system active under the following condi-
tions:
Functional requirement
This function is available in ECO PRO driving
mode.

DRIVING TIPS
The coasting mode is displayed in the Live Ve-
hicle menu as efficient coasting.
Activating/deactivating adaptive
recuperation
Adaptive recuperation is deactivated by acti-
vating SPORT driving mode.
Additional information:
Current driving condition, refer to page 149.
Adaptive recuperation is activated when
changing to another driving mode.
Exemplary driving situations
If you can travel a certain distance without any
foreseeable need to brake, it is beneficial to
coast.
Adaptive recuperation can only be used in se-
lector lever position D.
The following exemplary driving situations may
be suitable:
Display
Display in the instrument cluster
Adaptive recuperation can be displayed on the
instrument cluster.
▷
Rolling on a straight downhill route without
obstacles.
▷
Coasting on a distance without obstacles.
Additional information:
Avoid late or strong braking.
Power gauge, refer to page 141.
Functional requirements
Display on the control display
The adaptive recuperation can be displayed on
the control display.

▷
Selector lever position D is engaged.
Brake is not depressed.
Accelerator pedal is not operated.
Additional information:
Engine and transmission are at operating
temperature.
Current driving condition, refer to page 149.
The function is available in the speed
range from approx. 16 mph/25 km/h to
100 mph/160 km/h.
Engine off/coasting
Principle
Operation via shift paddles
The drive system allows the vehicle to roll
freely with minimal deceleration in selector
lever position D. This driving condition is refer-
red to as coasting. This reduces fuel consump-
tion.
Principle
Depending on the vehicle's equipment, the
Coasting mode can be influenced with the shift
paddles.
Vehicles with mild hybrid technology do not
consume fuel when coasting.
Activating/deactivating coasting via
shift paddles
Long press the right shift paddle to activate.
General information
An anticipatory driving style helps the driver
to use the function often and supports the effi-
cient effect of coasting.
To deactivate, actuate the left shift paddle.
System limits
Coasting cannot be used, or can only be used
to a limited extent, in the following situations:
Coasting is automatically adapted to the re-
spective driving situation.
