Note: Releasing the clutch pedal during
engine start stops the engine cranking and
returns the ignition to on.
1. Fully depress the clutch pedal.
2. Press the button.
WARNING: Always check that the
steering wheel lock is deactivated before
attempting to move your vehicle. Failure
to deactivate the steering wheel lock
could result in a crash.
Note: The system may not function if the
remote control is close to metal objects or
electronic devices such as cell phones.
Note: The ignition automatically switches
off when you leave your vehicle unattended.
This is to prevent your vehicle battery from
losing charge.
Note: A valid key must be located inside
your vehicle to switch the ignition on and
start the engine.
Vehicles with an Automatic
Transmission
Note: Releasing the brake pedal during
engine start stops the engine cranking and
returns the ignition to on.
1. Shift into park (P) or neutral (N).
2. Fully press the brake pedal.
3. Press the button.
Switching the Ignition On
(Accessory Mode)
Failure to Start
The system does not function if:

The key frequencies are jammed.
The key battery has no charge.
If you are unable to start your vehicle, do
the following:

4. With the key in this position, you can
use the push button ignition switch to
switch the ignition on and start your
vehicle.
Note: If your vehicle is equipped with a
manual transmission, releasing the clutch
pedal or button during engine start stops
the engine cranking and returns the ignition
to on. A message appears in the display.
When the engine does not crank when the
starter button is pressed:
1. Fully depress the clutch pedal (vehicles
with a manual transmission) and brake
pedal (vehicles with an automatic
transmission).
2. Press the button until the engine starts.
Stopping the Engine with the
Vehicle Stationary
1. Open the floor console storage
compartment lid.
2. Remove the tray.
Note: The ignition, all electrical circuits
warning lamps and indicators turn off.
Note: If your vehicle is equipped with an
automatic transmission, put the
transmission selector lever in position P.
Briefly press the button.
Stopping the Engine When the
Vehicle is Moving
Note: Switching off the engine when your
vehicle is still moving results in a significant
decrease in braking assistance. Higher effort
is required to apply the brakes and to stop
your vehicle. A significant decrease in
steering assistance could also occur. The
steering does not lock, but higher effort
could be required to steer your vehicle.
When you switch the ignition off, some
electrical circuits, for example airbags, also
turn off. If you unintentionally switch the
ignition off, shift into neutral (N) and restart
the engine.
3. Place the key into the backup slot.

Press and hold the button for at least
one second or press it three times
within two seconds.

again.
If the engine does not start after three
attempts, wait ten seconds and follow the
flooded engine procedure.
If you have difficulty starting the engine
when the temperature is below -13.0°F
(-25°C), press the accelerator pedal to the
mid-way point of its travel and try again.
STARTING A GASOLINE
ENGINE
Before starting the engine, check the
following:

Make sure the headlamps and
electrical accessories are off.
1. Fully depress the clutch pedal.

Make sure the parking brake is on.
Shift into park (P) or neutral.
2. Fully depress the accelerator pedal and
hold it there.
Note: You can only attempt to start the
engine for a limited amount of time before
the starting system temporarily disables. If
you exceed the starting time limit, a
message may appear and you cannot
attempt to start the engine for at least 15
minutes.
3. Start the engine.
Vehicles with Automatic Transmission
1. Fully depress the brake pedal.
2. Shift into park (P) or neutral (N).
3. Fully depress the accelerator pedal and
hold it there.
Cold or Hot Engine
Vehicles with Manual Transmission
Note: Do not touch the accelerator pedal.
Note: Releasing the clutch pedal during
engine starting stops the engine from
cranking.
4. Start the engine.
All Vehicles
If the engine does not start, repeat the cold
or hot engine procedure.
1. Fully depress the clutch pedal.
2. Start the engine.
